If you like the Hal Leonard fingerpicking guitar series, then this book is a must have. There are a ton of good songs in this book and it will provide many hours of entertainment. The songs are mainly pop songs with a few jazz, Broadway, and movie ones. The music is from the 50s to 2000’s, with a lot clustering in the 80’s. The notation includes melody, lyrics, solo arrangement, tab, and chords. Finger number suggestions are included. Most songs are full length arrangements going for an average of four pages, including authentic sounding intro and nice endings. Some songs go for many pages and are worthy of formal performance. The vast majority of the songs are in standard tuning with a few in drop D tuning. I would say the average difficulty level is early-intermediate. There are some songs that are quite easy and are suitable for advancing beginners, but many are not suitable for beginners. In Hal Leonard fingerpicking guitar series, they carefully arrange for the intermediate guitarist. For me, this is perfect because it does not take that long to learn the pieces. In "100 Most Beautiful Songs Ever", the melody timing is pretty faithful, which can make a fingerstyle arrangement challenging, but sound much better. The harmony also uses advanced chords, but generally the chords are in arpeggio form, so the fingering is not awkward. Typical of this series of arrangements is the lack of special effects like slapping, which is fine by me because I enjoy just hearing the beautiful harmony of the strings alone to bring out the music. I appreciate the effort Hal Leonard takes to makes these arrangements. I can tell they have really been worked out to test the playability.
