Author: Diana Gabaldon ID: B00AFXM6AE
Available for the first time as an audiobook in this original Outlander novella, Diana Gabaldon reveals what really happened to Roger MacKenzie Wakefield’s parents. Orphaned during World War II, Roger believed that his mother died during the London Blitz, and that his father, an RAF pilot, was killed in combat. But in An Echo in the Bone, Roger discovers that this may not be the whole story. Now, in “A Leaf on the Wind of All Hallows,” readers finally learn the truth.

I was so excited for this new novella to come out, as I’m currently re-reading the entire Outlander series for the third time. I was super curious about the mystery of Roger’s parents, and really wanted this to be good.
I enjoyed A Leaf on The Wind of All Hallows, but mostly because I’m desperate for an Outlander fix. I liked where Gabaldon went with the plot, but it was so very short and the whole thing felt rushed. Without giving away any of the plot, I’ll just say that there’s a major plot point that one would want there to be details about, and instead it’s incredibly vague and quick. I think this story needed to be about 50% longer to really do the story justice.
That being said, if you’re an Outlander nut, you’re going to want to read this. Just — maybe we’ll want to read it twice.
Diana’s writing is great as always. It only took me about an hour and a half tops to read this novella. It tells the story about what Jerry MacKenzie was doing when he slipped thru time. Also, a small connection to Claire Randall is in the story. The only part I would have liked to see some expansion on was about his trial’s in the past. It never did tell what year he landed in. I know this is a novella, so detail was not as expansive as one of her lengthy novels. There are a few twists in the end, that make you go humm, and also smile.
A quick read and not to be interrupted. The story of what happened to Roger’s parents is written impeccably as we have all come to expect from DG–complete with a few surprises!
