I aced my CL exams using Siegel’s. BTW, law school is a real scam. The objective is to pass the exams then pass the bar. For a lack of a better way to say it, I "fell asleep" in all my classes, which means I effectively did not listen to anything the professor said, took as much liberty as I could get away with to skip the class, never re-listened to the recorded lectures, etc. But I did cram intensely ahead of each exam for 2 weeks straight using Siegel’s and Emmanuel’s outlines and comfortably passed every exam. Imagine, the total *necessary* cost to learn what I needed to was $20 per class, all ebooks, but was forced by the establishment to pay tens of thousands for law school tuition. The reality is all you need is a few hundred dollars, take a lot of quality time to study the material (completely on your own) and in a couple years you will know just as much as a stanford law school grad. What they pay for is the right to say they went to school X. Bottom line, all you need to pass law school exams and the bar is right here in these cheap ebooks. You gotta study, memorize etc, but if you can read, this is all you need.
I had an earlier version, they are nearly identical, so if you can buy an earlier edition, save a few dollars and buy that.
The best value of this book is for the California Bar First Year Law Students’ Examination Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ’s). The June 1980 FYLX MCQ’s had been released a long time ago by the California Bar – Google them and you can find a set. The Siegel’s books for Torts, Contracts, and Criminal Law have nearly all of those MCQ’s in them – and 299 MCQ’s to practice with.
The California Bar is updating their MCQ’s, but the design and logic of the MCQ’s is similar to these MCQ’s… the value is in understanding why the right answers are right and why the wrong answers are wrong – and this book has that.
It will not take you long to end up memorizing these MCQ’s, but fully understand WHY the answers are what they are, and this book can help.
Good study practice for the FYLSE. Similar questions to the BAR exam. Wish me luck! Download Siegel’s Criminal Law: Essay and Multiple-Choice Questions and Answers 2013 Kindle Edition Free PDF

Risk Society: Towards a New Modernity (Published in association with Theory, Culture & Society) 1st Edition
Author: Visit ‘s Ulrich Beck Page ID: 0803983468
Review
This is a challenging book with a bold thesis which fully deserves the widespread attention it has provoked since its publication. In it Beck not only sets out a philosophically informed sociological theory of contemporary Western societies but also provides a framework within which environmental politics can be understood, explained and developed. While firm in criticising those who claim Western societies are “postmodern”, Beck also offers an immanent critique of modernity’s failed promises. What Beck claims is that contemporary society is at the cusp of a transition between “industrial society” and “risk society”…. To conclude, “risk society” could be viewed as the “morning after” the industrial night(mare) before, with “reflexive modernization” as the “hair of the dog”, a necessary but not sufficient condition for dealing with risk. A sobering analysis indeed! Environmental Politics
Thoroughly attuned to complexity in ecopolitical affairs… dissatisfied with the state of these affairs… ponder[s] the problematic relationship between science and politics… offer[s] insight into how to move beyond an unsatisfactory status quo in the search for ecological rationality or sustainability…. sensitive to the ecological hazards of modernity… Risk Society appeared in German in 1986, and its substantial impact in German social science looks set to be repeated in the English-speaking world. To Beck, the contemporary crisis is not of modernity but withinmodernity. The question is… how to make the best of modernity; as Beck puts it, to move from the semi-modernity of industrial to modernity proper Policy Sciences
Risk Society is incredibly thought-provoking and has quickly established itself as one of the most significant works of contemporary social analysis. A book of enormous breadth, it raises several issues of critical importance in contemporary society…. there are many memorable phrases and passages throughout the book which lead colour to the disturbing subject matter The Ecologist
Provocative. Beck’s discussion of the politics of risk societies is particularly insightful, and contributes to a more complete and critical understanding of advanced modern societies Political Studies
Ulrich Beck’s remarkable book Risk Society gives one cause to think again about whether a new model might not be becoming available for thinking about our times, in not an unhopeful spirit. Beck’s book, published in Germany in 1986 and successful enough there to have sold more than 60,000 copies and turned its author into a regular columinst… Risk Society displays a real sociological imagination Radical Philosophy
Beck’s book, in the tradition of German critical theory, provides a panoramic and abstract overview of contemporary society as dominated by technical risk… The greatest strengths of Risk Society are its rich theorizing and its global, often original, insights into the nature of contemporary social forces. Beck explains that society fights the `devil of hunger’ with the `Beelzebub of multiplying risks’. He also claims that, in industrial society, the driving force is `I am hungry’ whereas in risk society it is `I am afraid’. Such gripping conceptualisations are the mark of a distinguished essaysist, as Beck is. He astutely observes that we have succeeded in being skeptical about the methods of science but not about the application of science. Likewise Beck says that in the risk society we have replaced the politics of voting with faith in progress Environmental Values
Beck puts forward an intriguing argument: global endangerment is replacing class society and its alliances as an organizing principle. Whereas in earlier class-based societies only the proletariat was victimized, in the emerging worldwide risk society all groups – even the rich – are threatened…He makes the important point that risk and class positions overlap on a national and an international scale…Risk Society is a bold and imaginative treatise…vivid passages and sparkling metaphors…scholars, graduate students and patient general readers concerned with risk, social theory, or global social change will find reading it well worth their effort…(the) book addresses the cultural and moral dimensions of risk perception with compelling arguments. (It) also makes clear that social theory cannot truly explain contemporary society without carefully accounting for the roles played by science, technology, and cultural construcitons of risk Contemporary Sociology
This is a book of central political and social importance; it is vital that it triggers off and animates public discussion in this country as it did in Germany. After all, the greatest of risks our risk-infested society carries is the indifference to the risk aspects of our individual, sectional and global actions Times Higher Education Supplement
This analysis of the condition of Western societies made a ‘big splash’ when it was first published in German… The English translation will most probably help this important text of contemporary sociology to find its place among other typifications of society as postindustrial or postmodern… Here is a book which is very relevant to current debates about the social dimensions of the so-called ‘post-modern society Social Compass

Ulrich Beck argues that industrial society that used to be known as the distribution of goods has now been moved toward distributions of risk and hazard named as risk society. In other words in the advanced modern world, the social production of wealth systematically goes hand in hand with social production of risks. Accordingly, the problems and conflicts of distribution in a society of shortages are over layered by problems and conflicts that arise from over-production, definition and distribution of scientifically and technologically produced risks, says Beck. Then He argues that science has changed from an activity in the service of truth to an activity without truth. Likewise the consequences of this reflexive modernization contain a tendency toward globalization and ignore the boundaries of nation states which lastly results in continuous global endangerment.
The book also describes the way that the general forms of social life has moved from traditional societies in the mid 18th century to early modernity in 20th century and lastly toward reflexive modernity in the late 20th century which individualism is widespread. No longer, unskilled and uneducated people required and instead of high value on long term loyalty to the corporate institutions of the 20th century a shift to the self as the primary agent (i.e. a shift to I) had taken place. To sum up, Beck gives a new identity to risk which long has been dominated by rational doctrine. Manufactured Risks which are at the heart of the Modern society have become a taboo. The modern corporations have build a "Family of Myths" among which the most important is the "Myth of Rationality".

I read this book as part of an advanced qualitative research methods course. This book is excellent and could be understood even by beginning researchers. The example data set is easy to follow and applicable to the ideas and points the authors are trying to make. Easy to read and follow and even more helpful if you have your own project/data to think about as you read. I am sure I will refer back to this book as I write my dissertation.
Decent but I prefer Cresswell’s text.
This was required reading and as such it actually help me with the course of study. Hope it helps you too. Download Making Sense of Qualitative Data: Complementary Research Strategies Pdf Download

Read chapter 2 of the Real Estate Reference Guide published by BRE. In Chapter 2, you will see how an effective answer explanation should look. It should explain why the correct answer is correct AND why the incorrect answers are incorrect so you understand how to avoid making easy mistakes. Below is an example of a typical exam question, taken from the Real Estate Reference Guide:
Under no circumstances may a broker:
(a) receive a commission from both buyer and seller
(b) appoint a subagent
(c) misrepresent material facts
(d) sell the principal’s property to a relative.
Analysis:
(a) is incorrect. A broker may receive a commission from both parties provided both buyer and seller have knowledge of the arrangement.
(b) is incorrect. A broker may get prior consent from the principal to appoint other brokers as subagents to cooperate in selling the property.
(c) is correct. A material misrepresentation is a violation of law.
(d) is incorrect. The broker may sell to any purchaser provided the principal has full knowledge.
Mr. Bainbridge’s book is inadequate in it’s analysis of the answers, as it only explains the correct answer–essentially repeating the question and filling in the correct answer. This is ineffective in testing true comprehension in the multiple choice exam context as true comprehension comes not only from identifying the correct answer but understanding why the incorrect answers are incorrect. There is a science to creating multi-choice questions, especially questions that replicate actual exam questions, and not everyone who publishes a book on such questions knows what he/she is doing.
I completed about 75 questions from Mr. Bainbridge’s book and discarded the book as inadequate.
Anyway, I recently passed the sales person exam on my first try, relying entirely on my review of the BRE reference guide and glossary and the DRE regulations.
Thank you Jim!
This march, 2015 for first time I took my exam and passes it! Your book was a very helpful tool that gave me a clear understand of the way that the CalBRE apply the exam. Off course most questions are not the same as in your book, but after reading and revising the whole 450 questions, you can get a great comprehension of all those matters that a salesperson must know. Although English language is not my first language (I am Spanish speaker) your explanations guide me throughout my successful examination. Thank you again!
I passed my exam!!!! I have to give this book some credit for preparing me for that grueling process.

LSD: Doorway to the Numinous: The Groundbreaking Psychedelic Research into Realms of the Human Unconscious Paperback – February 12, 2009
Author: Visit ‘s Stanislav Grof Page ID: 1594772827
” . . . Grof’s engrossing state-of-the-science overview argues convincingly that continued LSD reserach will help patients, parents, policymakers, and even spiritual seekers.” (Publishers Weekly, Feb 2009)
“Dr. Grof’s efforts should be lauded and highly commended in the scientific and medical community. His clinical research is courageous and luminous to anyone who is conscious of the body’s metaphysiology and higher energy dynamics. This field of research is as important to the human animal as molecular scientific inquiry into the etiology of neoplasias.” (Dr. Ron Shane, reviewer, April 2009)
“Dr. Grof has helped to give us new ways of seeing the world . . . He has opened a link between the psyche and the spirit.” (Nexus New Times Magazine, Sept/Oct 2009)
“For any serious student of psychedelics or psychology, this is an important read that should not be ignored. In terms of building a foundation for the future of the psychedelic movement and finding a place for psychedelics in society, LSD:Doorway to the Numinous is without question the text. Authoritative, insightful, and self-aware.” (Psychedelic Press, UK, Feb 2010)
“The most significant development in the recent history of depth psychology, and the most important advance in the field since Freud and Jung themselves, has been the work of Stanislav Grof.” (Richard Tarnas, Ph.D., author of The Passion of the Western Mind)
“A breakthrough work.” (Jean Houston, Ph.D., coauthor of The Varieties of Psychedelic Experience)
“Dr. Stanislav Grof’s LSD: Doorway to the Numinous is an extraordinary alchemical text that overturns many commonly held beliefs about the nature of individual identity and consciousness. Based on his 2,500 clinical sessions using LSD as a therapeutic tool before the substance was interdicted, Grof’s book explores the vast dimensions of inner experience that have been ignored and marginalized by the mainstream. He also provides a theoretical framework for understanding these amazing experiences that synthesizes Freudian and Jungian insights into the dark matter of the unconscious and the primal drives that secretly impel us to act. A must-read for all serious students of consciousness.” (Daniel Pinchbeck, author of 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl and Breaking Open the Head)
“Stanislav Grof is the undisputed world authority on LSD and the human psyche, and this book provides the best cartography of consciousness for understanding the profound impact of entheogens on the mind.” (Alex Grey, artist and author of Sacred Mirrors and Transfigurations)
“I know of no work that so well incorporates the findings of Freud, Jung, and Rank, adding fresh insights that the methods of these psychotherapists could never have achieved. It certainly goes beyond Freud. It brings new clarification to Jung. It throws new light on the topic of death and resurrection symbolism, as well as on religious imagery. I do not doubt that others working in this field will find Dr. Grof’s discoveries a basis for a whole new strategy of research.” (Joseph Campbell, author of The Hero with a Thousand Faces, The Masks of God, and Myths to Live By)
“Stanislav Grof ’s research is the most important contribution to personality theory in several decades.” (Abraham Maslow, Ph.D., psychologist, cofounder of Humanistic and Transpersonal Psychology, and autho)
“An exceptionally clear and readable introduction to the evolving psychology of the spirit–transpersonal psychology–that is one of the most exciting developments of our times. Grof is far and away one of the leading scientists exploring this field.” (Charles Tart, Ph.D., psychologist and author of States of Consciousness, PSI: Scientific Studies of)
“Dr. Grof’s studies of the mystical experience in LSD therapy represent an extremely valuable scientific approach to consciousness research from which many people can benefit.” (Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, Tibetan lama and author of Born in Tibet, Spiritual Materialism, and Medit)
“Grof has had far and away more experience in psychedelic research than anyone else and has come up with the most comprehensive and helpful framework for interpreting the data in this bewildering area.” (Huston Smith, Ph.D., author of The Worlds Religions and Beyond the Post-Modern Mind)
“Grof marshals an impressive array of data and speculation in support of the timely demand that Western science acknowledge consciousness and its many nonordinary states.” (Richard Alpert (Ram Dass), Ph.D., psychologist, spiritual teacher, and author of Be Here Now, Grist)
“A fascinating journey through previously uncharted realms of the psyche guided by one of the world’s foremost consciousness researchers. A remarkable account of the extraordinary depths of the human psyche.” (Frances Vaughan, Ph.D., psychologist and author of Awakening Intuition and The Inward Arc)

Dr. Grof’s work is essential reading for medical clinicians, artists, psychologists and the lay public. Currently, in the U.S. psychiatric practitioners cannot employ psychotropic agents to efficaciously treat their compromised patients. Dr. Grof’s breakthrough research work in the 1970’s provides veracity to this kind of prophylaxis as a quintessential strategy for enhancing the perturbed modern human psyche. Furthermore, the majority of psychiatrists in the U.S. are no longer therapeutically treating personality disorders with comprehensive medicinal strategies. Patients are given SSRIs, SSNRIs or anti-psychotics in most cases for Axis II morbidities.
Dr. Grof’s efforts should be lauded and highly commended in the scientific and medical community. His clinical research is courageous and luminous to anyone who is conscious of the body’s meta-physiology and higher energy dynamics. This field of research is as important to the human animal as molecular scientific inquiry into the etiology of neoplasias. Furthermore, this text would be inspiring to anyone who has not yet felt the body’s numinous essence. Pathogenic materialism is certainly not the way to unleash the etheric impassionment of the human psyche. Dr. Grof’s book "LSD: Doorway to the Numinous" and Dr. Rick Strassmans’ Books "The DMT Molecule" and "The Inner Paths to Outerspace" all published by Inner Tradition, would certainly benefit the harrowing consciousness of all homosapiens.
Mescaline, psilocybin, ayahuasca and LSD are exquisite protocols in the words of Dr. Grof to ameliorate perturbations of personality and psyche. However, the U.S. government has mandated that board certified psychiatrists cannot utilize these agents in a clinical medical setting. Do you teach evaluation, research methods, or statistics, or need to teach some key concepts to evaluation stakeholders? Are you in grad school and just learning social science research methods? This handy guide is a great resource for instructors and students alike, as it offers both definitions and relevant, understandable examples. Are you a visual learner? The book also features dozens of easy-to-interpret charts, tables, graphs, and figures. (Sheila B. Robinson)

It is a very useful book both for statisticians, scientists and other professionals, as well as for students and people who use statistics from time to time only. One of its major advantages is that it is written in an understandable language without many formulas. I marked it with 4 stars only because of the price: in my view it is too expensive for a Kindle edition.
The book is filled with information that is easy to read and understand. This dictionary is what I would recommend for beginners in statistics to help them understand and learn the jargon.
Me parece una excelente herramienta para mis estudiantes de Doctorado y de maestrÃa. Es imprescindible para los cursos de EstadÃstica descriptiva, inferencial y Multivariada.

That it’s so tempting to read SHADOW OF THE WIND is a tribute to clever marketing. Comparisons to Marquez, Borges, and Dickens mix with gushing tributes from Stephen King and references to best-sellerdom in Spain. The literary come-on is hard to resist.
In the end however, the way you respond to this book will depend on what expectations you bring to it. If you anticipate a reading experience worthy of those heady literary comparisons, you’ll be sorely disappointed – Zafon is little closer to Garcia Marquez than Stephen King is. The closest he comes is having the temerity to give a minor character, a boyfriend of Beatriz Aguilar’s, the family name Buendia, the prolific clan from ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF SOLITUDE. If you plan, however, on a fantastical romp through a mid-century Barcelona converted wholesale into a gothic swamp of ghosts, shadows, haunted houses, malevolent, revenge-seeking, jilted lovers, swooning virginal maidens, improbably picaresque characters, unbelievable coincidences, parallelisms, and twists of fate, and a host of pseudo-Freudian relationships, you’ll love every minute.
The story line of SHADOW OF THE WIND is so complex and convoluted, it’s nearly impossible to relate in less space than the book’s own 487 pages. Suffice to say, the premise is drawn from the search of a teenaged boy named Daniel for the truth about the fate of Julian Carax, the author of a mystery story (also named "Shadow of the Wind") that Daniel has adopted and read after his bibliophilic father takes him on a "coming of age" excursion to the aptly metaphorical Cemetary of Forgotten Books. Carax has apparently written a number of other books, all of them commercial failures, yet someone has been traveling Europe to find and burn every extant copy of Carax’s works.
Reading "The Shadow Of The Wind" was both a delight and a disappointment. This novel had the potential to be excellent literary fiction. At times Carlos Ruiz Zafon’s writing reminded me of both Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s and Jorge Luis Borges’ work. My expectations rose dramatically as I began to hope for more than a good read. Instead of great literature, however, the novel became an overlong and predictable bestseller, with a most original premise, some brilliant passages and many flaws.
Sr. Ruiz Zafon’s extraordinary idea of creating a Cemetery of Forgotten Books, a labyrinthian library where each book awaits someone to choose it and give it another chance to live by making it part of the new owner’s life, gave me chills. There existed a possibility, as I read the first chapters, that I might be able to list this as one of my favorite works of fiction. Unfortunately, my disappointment when reaching the novel’s conclusion overshadowed the book’s many positive elements.
Daniel Sempere is a young boy who fears he has forgotten the image of his dead mother’s face. His compassionate father, an antiquarian book dealer, introduces him to the book cemetery. Daniel and Sr. Sempere are both memorable and unusual characters, as are many of Ruiz Zafon’s other figures. Fermin, a former Republican agent who becomes a second father to Daniel, and Julian Carax, the author of the book Daniel selects, are both extraordinary men. Daniel’s choice of books ultimately determines the course of his life, as he tries to discover if the author is still alive and solve the multitude of mysteries surrounding him. The setting, post-WWII Barcelona, is fascinating and Zafon depicts a brooding city in mourning as a result of the atrocities of both civil and world wars.
Most Emanuel outlines are amazing if keyed to your casebook. This means the supplement follows along with your casebook and case readings. It has a condensed overview outline at the beginning, followed by more in depth coverage with cases and book notes. Unlike other Emanuel outlines, this does not contain checklists/flowcharts after each topic. However, it does have some issue spotting tips after each chapter and practice hypos at the end. Out of all of my supplements, this was indeed the most useful for class prep and outlining. However for practice and a more in-depth explanation other supplements are necessary. CrunchTime Property 2009 (The Crunchtime Series) is essentially a non-keyed version of this book, minus the in-depth outline, so the full, keyed outline is definitely worth the extra money.
I used various supplements for this class. Before buying all of them, I would go to your law library and look them over, use them for your class and see which work best for you. My biggest mistake was thinking by using supplements I would learn less or get screwed up. Professors tell you whether they like supplements or not, but if you use them to prepare for class, still at least go through the cases and take NOTES from what professors say, you will do far better.
I will explain the supplements I used and how I studied for class and finals. In the both semesters I read Download Emanuel Law Outlines: Property Keyed to Dukeminier, Krier, Alexander & Schill, 7th Edition 7th Edition Free PDF

Astute and highly experienced psychotherapist and teacher, Linda Curran, adds a gem to the rich literature of trauma assessment, diagnosis and treatment with her latest guidebook. I found this well-written and throughly researched text to be incredibly helpful and informative. The organization and explanations are thoroughly developed with a thoughtful but respectful approach. Coming from a systemic, marriage and family background background, I also appreciated that the author included an explanation of Internal Family Systems (Richard Schwartz, et al) and Narrative Psychotherapy (Michael White, David Epston and colleagues) two of the most promising schools of systemic psychotherapy in the treatment of trauma injury. Much can be accomplished and reclaimed if we remember the interconnectedness of individual – family – community. This book is worth every penny and I highly recommend it.
packed with useful information about trauma and its impact. has many easy to practice and effective techniques for dealing with symptoms. helpful for both clinicians and clients. one of the best i have come across in this genre. very user friendly and filled with the latest information. i highly recommend it!
I love this book and will use it often. Breaks down some of the basic skills in self-regulation clearly. Can be used as a self-help book or by a clinician working with clients.
